Chapter 13 "Television Studies: Alternatives to Empirical Approaches"
In the third edition, chapter 13 is nearly double the size of the chapter in the second edition. It accounts for the burgeoning academic discipline of "television studies" and outlines the following critical approaches: auteurism, genre study, semiotics, ideological analysis, political economy, feminism and queer theory, and racial and ethnic studies.
