Today we merged the old, second-edition Website into the new(er), third-edition Website.
We hope this caught no one by surprise. The third edition has been out for a year now and much of the information on the second-edition site was out-of-date. It was time to move on.
However, for the time being, we have left many of the second-edition illustrations online. If you happen to have bookmarked them, you may still go directly to them. If not, you'll find them listed here. We cannot guarantee how much longer these files will be available -- depending upon our needs for disk space and bandwidth. If you need particular images from the second edition, please take this opportunity to download them to your own computer.
As you'll see, all of the second-edition pages are now redirected to the appropriate third-edition pages. However, we may have missed something in the move. Please let us know if you have any trouble finding something: jbutler at ua dot edu.
And our apologies in advance for any inconvenience!

We've been very busy since our last post on 7 August. Too busy, I guess, to even post updates here!
First, and most significantly: Television has been published.
It's now available in bookstores everywhere and online at merchants such as Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. In fact, several colleges (including our home institution, the University of Alabama) have already started using it in classes.
Second, we've completed the companion Website for the third edition--as you can see. Notable on the new Website are:
Plus, you'll also find the sample syllabi and student papers, along with all the other resources from the second edition's Website. We'll keep that old Website running for the time being, but come August 2007 we'll fold it into this new site.
We're excited about this new edition and hope you find it useful. If you have comments to share with us, or happen to notice any errors, please do contact us.

TVCrit.com is under renovation. The third edition of Television: Critical Methods and Applications contains numerous new illustrations and consequently the companion Website needs to be updated. Rather than simply patching the site for the second edition, we've decided to create a new site -- importing any usable data from the previous site. We will also take the opportunity to upgrade the content-management software the site runs on -- changing from Mambo to Joomla. |

The next (and final) step in manuscript preparation occurred today: the authors completed the correcting of proofs and the creation of the index.
Also, the publishers have finished designing the new cover (with another cool TV-viewing image from the Corbis archive) and tell me that it is on schedule for release in September.
That seems awfully soon! If some glitch delays the physical production of the book, we will post PDFs of chapters here. I know many instructors are hoping to use this third edition in classes that start as early as late August (as do my own). If this edition is not ready in time, you will be able to either teach from the PDFs or use the second edition, which will remain in print until the third is out.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope that you'll find the additions to and revisions of this edition will make it worthwhile. |
